WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN AN ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY

When choosing an assisted living facility for someone in your life or for yourself, it can be a challenge. There is such an array of options across the fifty states that you need to have a plan in place when looking. We are here to help you decide what to look for in an assisted living facility in Lexington, Kentucky.

First, you need to consider what the needs of the resident are. Some people believe the location is one of the most important things. This may be true. Some people may prefer to be close to doctors or a major hospital, while others want to be closer to entertainment and shopping. A location near children and/or grandchildren may also be an ideal fit.

Living space is another thing to consider. Is an extra bedroom necessary for guests? What about a kitchenette or patio if you plan to entertain? This is the part when you should consider what amenities and activities will make you happy you chose that location. There are a number of assisted living facilities that offer amenities, like pools, movie theaters, putting greens, salons, and more.

Lastly, you should use a number of resources to evaluate each of these locations. When visiting an assisted living facility, there are a number of things to look for. How are the grounds taken care of? Do they seem nice? Are things broken or run-down? What about odors or stains? Safety measures are also important to locate. Are there grab bars? Signs toward emergency exits?

You can also ask current residents what they think of the facility. If they are well-groomed, happy, and friendly, this may reflect the facility, itself. It may also be a good idea to visit multiple times, both during the day and at night to test out the atmosphere. Trying out the food is also important. If you are going to be living somewhere, it is important that you can tolerate the food.
